Personal guidance from a talented writer and experienced writing partner.
I'm Winslow Solomon, a Yale College student from Richmond, Vermont. I enjoy working with writers to make their work distinctive and convincing. At Yale, I’m a student in the writing-intensive Directed Studies program. On the recommendation of my professors, I was hired by the Yale College Writing Center as a peer tutor for other Yale students.
College applications are an opportunity to practice reflecting on your experiences and making an argument about yourself--critical skill in and beyond college. In working with students, I focus on guiding them towards a narrative that feels genuine and showcases what makes each of them special. Together, we will work to highlight the elements of your life that emphasize the most important aspects of your character and story.
Personally, I’ve realized that the more I talk to others about my writing, the more successful I am. I find working with other writers fulfilling because I know the effect it can have. Besides helping you find and communicate your best ideas, I’ll work with you to create a timeline that feels comfortable and hold you accountable to the deadlines we set.
The Common App Essay is the priority. You have a page to give an elevator speech on who you are and what you will bring to the academic and social college communities. I can help you come up with a topic/story, structure the essay, refine your ideas, and stay under the wordcount.
Supplementals come next. We will think about what each college wants to know from the questions it asks, and how you can paint a full picture of yourself in the answers you supply.
Finally, the Activity and Honors/Awards sections. These can be fun to wordsmith. We'll decide the order in a way that complements what has been covered in your essays.
Generally, weekly, biweekly, or monthly Zoom meetings paired with asynchronous editing/commenting is how I work with clients. My hourly rate is $60/hr. If spontaneous meetings are the best way I can support you, then the hourly rate works fine. I generally prefer to come up with a customized plan (what essays we will work on, how often we will meet) during our first call, after which I send a quote for the whole package with a break-down based on the estimated work required for your situation. I am happy to negotiate price in cases where accessibility is an issue.
